About RFC

The renowned Rainforest Challenge (RFC) is among the Top Ten Toughest Motor Races in the World organized by the legend of world off-road, Luis Wee. The competition has been held for over 25 years in with the support of the tourism sector of the Government of Malaysia. The format of the competition is organized into short special stages (called SS) with a time limit of 15 minutes which requires strategic and technical skills of the crew to overcome the SS.
 

The driving skills of the pilot and the recovery skills of the co-pilot working in combination, the engine power of the vehicle, the winch retraction speed and the high durability of the off-road vehicles are of great importance in the competition. The trails are laid in jungle or any outdoor terrain in the highlands or lowlands over rocks, clay, mud, soggy grounds and along mountain streams or rivers. The natural elements from the wet weather or monsoon rain also add on the difficulties of the race.
 

In the 10 days of the event in Malaysia, there can be from 25 to 50 special stages and the winner is determined by the maximum points scored by each team.
 

The competitor teams can prepare their vehicles to race in any of the 3 categories: R1 (prototype/hard), R2 (Modified Production/Medium) and R3 (Standard/Soft) and receive awards for their respective category.

In addition to the absolute classification, engine power classes are also awarded up to 2 liters and up to 3 liters as well as well as classes with electric winches (in the race, the mechanical winches can be more powerful than electric provided the crew know how to use them properly).
 

Throughout the history of the competition, the race has been attended by participants from many countries coming from Europe, America, Asia, Middle East and Oceania (Australia & New Zealand). Participants from over 60 countries have attended the RFC in Malaysia at least once or many times in different years throughout the 25 years of RFC history.
 

Among the extreme off-road competition, the RFC is ranked third toughest off-road races below Baja 1000 & the Dakar. In the global off-road fraternity, the RFC is the unofficial World 4x4 Championship called the RFC Global Series (RFCGS) with RFC qualifying races held worldwide including in Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, India, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, China, Mongolia, Korea, Ecuador, Australia and Russia. Every year, new countries continue to join the RFCGS from anywhere in the world, with new races being planned in Panama, Mexico, Bolivia, Lebanon and South Africa, among others.
